There is an amazing environmental success story to be discovered in South Australia, outside of Adelaide, along the banks of the River Murray. Its a story about the wetlands, vineyards and worldwide conservation efforts. At Banrock Station in the early 1850s the European settlers grazed sheep where they could easily access water. In 1907, the dry woodlands were cleared for cereal crops. Today, through an amazing environmental turnaround, the land is a bird lovers paradise, and has enabled the conservationists to recreate spring flood conditions every year. This triggers breading in the birds and fish and enables the regeneration of native plants.
